SOUNDPEATS Air6 HS Review

Disclosure: I’d like to thank SOUNDPEATS for providing me with the Air6 HS for this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and SOUNDPEATS had no say or input on the contents of this review.

The SOUNDPEATS Air6 HS is a semi-in-ear true wireless earbud aimed at listeners who want lightweight comfort, strong battery life, LDAC support, and a more open-feeling fit.

Semi-in-ear earbuds are always a little different from traditional sealed in-ear earbuds. They do not sit deep in the ear canal, they do not create the same level of passive isolation, and they usually do not deliver the same physical bass impact as silicone-tipped earbuds. But they can also be much more comfortable, especially for people who dislike the pressure and plugged-up feeling of traditional in-ear designs.

That is where the Air6 HS fits in. It is not trying to be a flagship ANC earbud or a direct replacement for something like the AirPods 4. Instead, it is trying to offer a lightweight, open, casual listening experience with some surprisingly strong audio features for the price, including LDAC support, Bluetooth 6.0, multipoint, Spatial Audio features, a game mode, Dynamic EQ, and up to 45 hours of total battery life.

At $39.99 USD, the Air6 HS has a lot going for it on the spec sheet. But semi-in-ear earbuds live and die by their fit, comfort, and tuning, so let’s get into the review and see what to make of it.

The charging case is compact and lightweight, and it feels appropriately portable for everyday use. This is the type of earbud case that disappears easily into a pocket, sling bag, or backpack compartment. I would not call the case premium, but at this price point, I care more about whether it is practical, easy to carry, and secure enough to protect the earbuds, and it certainly checks all those boxes.

Design & Comfort

Comfort is easily one of the biggest reasons to consider the SOUNDPEATS Air6 HS. Each earbud weighs only 4g, and that lightweight design makes a big difference during longer listening sessions. These do not have the deep, sealed fit of traditional in-ear earbuds, so there is no pressure buildup, no need to fiddle with silicone tips, and no feeling of your ears being blocked. This makes them very easy to wear for long periods of time.

The semi-in-ear shape also makes the Air6 HS feel more breathable than sealed earbuds. I never felt the same kind of fatigue that I sometimes get from ANC earbuds with a strong seal, and that is one of the biggest strengths of this design.

The trade-off, of course, is that fit will be more personal. With silicone-tipped earbuds, you can usually adjust the fit by changing tip sizes or tip styles. With semi-in-ear earbuds, the shell either works with your ears or it does not. For me, the Air6 HS sits comfortably and securely enough for normal daily use. I can even tilt my head from side to side, and they stay in perfectly, but I would not choose this style for intense workouts or situations where I need maximum stability, as they can fall out when shaking my head.

For walking, commuting, desk work, and casual listening, they are comfortable. For running or more aggressive movement, I would still prefer a sealed earbud or something with a wing/stabilizer design just for the peace of mind of knowing they won’t fall out, but overall, they do feel more secure than something like the AirPods 4.

Build quality is very good for the price. The earbuds feel light and simple, but they do not feel cheap. The glossy black finish looks clean, though it will naturally pick up fingerprints over time. The design is understated enough that it does not draw much attention, which I generally prefer.

The IPX5 water resistance rating is also nice to have here. I would not treat these like rugged sports earbuds, but they should be fine for sweat, light rain, and daily use.

Usability

The SOUNDPEATS Air6 HS is pretty straightforward to use, in that if you’ve used these types of TWS earbuds before, you’ll feel right at home.

Pairing is simple, and once connected, the earbuds reconnect quickly to previously paired devices. The charging case has a reset button, which is always appreciated because true wireless earbuds can occasionally run into pairing quirks with some devices. Being able to reset them directly from the case makes troubleshooting much easier.

Controls are handled through touch controls on the earbuds. They are responsive enough, but as usual, I still prefer physical buttons (which, admittedly, are harder to implement on earbuds). The controls can be customized in the PeatsAudio app, which I always appreciate.

The Air6 HS also supports single-earbud use, which is convenient for phone calls, podcasts, and casual listening when you still want one ear open.

Companion App

The PeatsAudio app is an important part of the Air6 HS experience. Through the app, you can adjust EQ, enable Dynamic EQ, manage controls, update firmware, enable dual-device connection, and access other settings. For a budget-focused earbud, this is a strong feature set. Below are some screenshots from the app to give you an idea of what to expect.

Bluetooth Performance

For a $39 pair of semi-in-ear earbuds, the codec support is impressive. You get SBC and AAC for maximum compatibility, along with LDAC for Android users who want higher-bitrate wireless audio.

That makes the Air6 HS more appealing than many budget semi-in-ear earbuds, especially if you use an Android phone or DAP that supports LDAC. On iPhone, you will be limited to AAC, which is still fine for casual listening, but Android users will get the better feature set here.

In my testing, connection stability was very reliable. Pairing was quick, reconnecting worked as expected, and I did not run into any issues when moving between devices. Range was also good, especially with AAC. I didn’t run into any audio stuttering or dropouts when walking 10+ meters away from my phone.

As previously mentioned, multipoint is also supported, which is a very useful feature if you regularly switch between multiple devices. Being able to stay connected to two devices makes the Air6 HS much more practical for work-from-home use, video calls, and general multitasking.

Enabling dual-device connection disables LDAC, which is usually the case to ensure maximum stability, but it is something to keep in mind. If you want the best possible sound quality, use LDAC with a single device.

Game Mode is also included and helps reduce latency. Overall, it works very well, and if you watch a lot of videos or podcasts or even do some mobile gaming, this works perfectly for all of those scenarios.

Battery Performance

SOUNDPEATS rates the Air6 HS for up to 9 hours on a single charge and up to 45 hours total with the charging case. Those are strong numbers for lightweight semi-in-ear earbuds, especially at this price.

As always, real-world battery life will depend on volume, codec, features, and usage. LDAC will drain the battery faster than AAC or SBC, and higher volume levels will also reduce playback time. Still, I was getting very close to the 9-hour usage for the earbuds when using AAC, and closer to 6.5 hours with LDAC. These numbers are very respectable.

The 10-minute quick charge feature is also useful, giving you up to 3 hours of playback. That is the type of feature I appreciate more in daily life than I do on a spec sheet. If you forget to charge them before leaving the house, a short top-up can still give you enough listening time for a commute or workout.

The case charges over USB-C, which is exactly what I want to see. Wireless charging would have been nice, but at this price, I do not consider its absence a major issue.

Sound Quality

The SOUNDPEATS Air6 HS uses a 13mm dynamic driver with a PU-Bio composite diaphragm and triple-magnet design. This design carefully marries the high elasticity of PU (which aids deep bass expansion) with the elevated propagation speed and high internal loss of natural bio-cellulose materials (which handles clean midrange and high frequencies).

As for how it sounds, the Air6 HS is not a bass-heavy earbud, and it is not going to compete with sealed in-ear earbuds for sub-bass extension or impact. But for a semi-in-ear earbud, the Air6 HS has a pleasant, open, and easygoing presentation that works well for casual listening.

The default sound is fairly clean and balanced, but I prefer using Dynamic EQ. With the Dynamic EQ option enabled (from within the PeatsAudio app), the Air6 HS gains more body and warmth, making the overall presentation more satisfying without completely muddying the sound.

This is not an analytical earbud, and I do not think it is trying to be. It is a comfortable, enjoyable, open-fit earbud with better codec support and tuning flexibility than its price would suggest. One thing to note, though, is that when using the Dynamic EQ option, the treble can sound a little spicy, making it fatiguing over time for those who are more treble sensitive.

Because the Air6 HS does not seal the ear canal, the presentation feels more open and less closed-in than many budget in-ear earbuds. Music has a nice sense of width, and the earbuds do not create that boxed-in feeling that some cheaper TWS models suffer from.

Imaging is decent, though not exceptional. Instrument placement is easy enough to follow in simpler tracks, but busier mixes can become a bit more blended. That is expected for the category and price.

For casual music listening, podcasts, movies, and YouTube, the Air6 HS creates a pleasant, open presentation. It is not highly technical, but it is spacious and easy to listen to.

Spatial Audio

Two Spatial Audio modes are included (Music and Movies). I do not recommend the Music mode, as it pushes vocals away and just generally makes audio sound bland and tinny. The Movie mode does add some spaciousness and a holographic sound, but I would not say it sounds better than when it’s turned off. Like with the Cove Pro I recently reviewed, this feature needs some more work to be considered useful.

Microphone Performance

The Air6 HS uses two microphones per side with AI ENC call noise reduction. For calls in a quiet environment with minimal background noise, the microphone performance is pretty solid. Voices come through clearly enough, and the earbuds are perfectly usable for phone calls, Zoom meetings, voice notes, and casual conversations.

In noisier environments, the AI noise reduction helps reduce some background noise, but it does not completely remove it. Busy streets, wind, and loud chatter will still challenge the noise rejection. That is normal for budget earbuds, and I would not expect flagship-level call performance here. For day-to-day calls, they work well. For professional calls in loud places, I would still use a dedicated headset or a higher-end earbud with stronger microphone processing.

Final Thoughts

The SOUNDPEATS Air6 HS is a lightweight, affordable, semi-in-ear earbud made for people who value comfort, awareness, battery life, and convenience more than maximum isolation or bass-heavy sound profile. It is not trying to replace a sealed ANC earbud, and it should not be judged like one.

The lack of ANC and limited passive isolation means these are not the best choice for noisy commutes, flights, or anyone who wants to block out the world. Bass response is also naturally limited by the open fit, and the sound can vary depending on how well the earbuds sit in your ears.

But as a casual daily earbud, the Air6 HS gets a lot right. LDAC support is a major bonus for Android users, battery life is generally excellent, multipoint pairing is useful, and the PeatsAudio app gives you enough control to fine-tune the experience. At $39.99 USD, it is already easy to recommend.

Prime Day pricing makes this an even better deal, and SOUNDPEATS has informed me that the Air6 HS will be $30.38 USD (24% off) during Prime Day.
