Last year Sennheiser released an affordable yet class-leading closed-back headphone, the HD 620S. This year it looks like they’re trying to do the same for the open-back headphone market with the new HD 505.
According to the press release, the HD 505 headphones offer an immersive audio experience, simulating the effect of nearfield loudspeakers to create an expansive soundstage. This allows listeners to feel as if they’re in the front row for their favorite music, movies, and games.
Built on the renowned HD 500 series platform, the HD 505 combines timeless design with durability. Its lightweight structure (weighing only 237 grams) and synthetic leather headband ensure long-lasting comfort during extended listening sessions. The metal mesh earcup covers add a touch of understated elegance.
Versatility is a key feature of the HD 505. It comes with a detachable 1.8m cable, a 3.5mm plug, and a 6.3mm adapter, making it compatible with a wide range of audio sources including amplifiers, sound cards, audio interfaces, and A/V receivers. Like other 500 series headphones, the HD 505 supports user-customizable cables and earpads without requiring tools. This modular design allows users to adapt the headphones to their evolving audio setups, such as incorporating balanced audio sources or adding an in-line microphone.
Personally, I’m excited to give the HD 505 a listen and see how if it will be the new versatility king.
The Sennheiser HD 505 is now available, priced at 279,90 Euros / $249.95 USD MSRP.
